Fox and producers of the long-running reality singing competition ‘American Idol’ have officially named Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban as the show’s newest judges for the show’s 13th season. Ratings for the once dominant program have sagged some in recent years.
Lopez and Urban are veteran judges — Lopez appeared on seasons 10 and 11, while Urban participated in season 12. Connick is the newbie of the group, sitting behind the table for the first time when early rounds begin filming this month.
“I have always been a huge fan of American Idol and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show,” said Connick, whom The Hollywood Reporter confirmed would serve as a judge last week. “And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to American Idol, and to help emerging performers find their way.”
“I think this season of Idol is gonna be a blast,” said Urban. “New team, new energy and a whole new field of artists to be discovered and given a chance!”
